At the Monday, April 14, 2025 meeting of the South-Western City School District Board of Education, district leadership unanimously (5-0) passed a resolution in opposition to the current budget structure of House Bill 96 (passed April 10 by the Ohio House), while also advocating for a more comprehensive school funding plan.
While the Board recognizes that many in communities across the state are experiencing difficult financial conditions, the residual impacts of House Bill 96, now in the hands of the Ohio Senate, will result in approximately $150 million in lost funds for the South-Western City School District (10 months of contingency funding used) that have been strategically allocated to avoid returning to taxpayers for an operating levy since 2009.
As the budget bill is being discussed among legislators, the District once more reaffirmed its commitment April 14th to the practice of responsible fiscal management by resolution - ensuring that SWCSD remains an exemplary steward of taxpayer dollars while delivering exceptional educational opportunities for all students.
