Wellness Policy

South Western City Schools has developed a Wellness Policy that is focused on improving the health of oyr students globally both in and out of the classroom. Our Wellness Policy can be found at the link (click here).

Main Points of Emphasis within the Wellness Policy:
  1. Nutrition Education: Nutrition education plays a crucial role in promoting lifelong healthy eating habits among students. Schools integrate nutrition lessons into various subjects, such as science and health, to teach students about balanced diets, portion control, and the benefits of consuming whole foods. Hands-on activities, such as cooking demonstrations and school garden programs, provide practical learning experiences that reinforce classroom instruction.
  2. Physical Activity: Regular physical activity is essential for students' physical and mental well-being, contributing to improved concentration, behavior, and academic performance. Schools encourage movement through structured physical education classes, recess periods, and extracurricular sports programs. To promote an active lifestyle, teachers can incorporate short physical activity breaks into the school day, such as stretching or movement-based learning exercises.
  3. Other school-based activities that are designed to promote student wellness: Beyond nutrition and physical activity, schools implement a variety of initiatives that support overall student wellness. Mindfulness activities and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) curricula help students develop resilience and coping skills.  By embedding wellness into the school culture, districts create an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and physically.

As required by the Wellness Policy, South Western City Schools must assess the Wellness Policy on a trienniel basis. The latest assessment can be found (click here).
